DG Then & Now - The Forward Fuselage
Like the centre fuselage, the forward fuselage section was in very good condition structurally, despite its appearance. It was separated from the centre fuselage on the morning of 5th May 2004 and transported to Brooklands later that same day. The two sections were joined together at Brooklands by engineers from Air Salvage International using aluminium doubler plates. Once reattached, volunteers sanded down any surface corrosion and primed and and painted the whole section. The final task was to apply the blue cheatline, the Speedbird logo and the British Airways titles of the 'Negus & Negus' livery that DG wore throughout her operational life.
